This new collection of fragments from my personal audio archive is exclusively focused on recordings made at the Noise Lab studio between May 1986 and September 1987, a really meaningful time for my own musical research work since I finally had a rudimentary sampler, a barely programmable sequencer (it took hours and hours to adequately write a score composed down to the smallest detail) and a series of drum machines quite different from each other in terms of timbre and programmability.
The most relevant thing for me about this collection is to note what a certain attitude for creativity actually permeated that season (although I had bitterly concluded my professional adventure with RUINS and the HAKKAH project was still moving forward but with mixed moments).
What is presented here is only a small part of the much larger presence in the archive.
Unfortunately some of the most interesting testimonies have been pitilessly ruined by time and by a questionable conservation of the tapes (mea maxima culpa) and - at least at the moment - it has not been possible to bring them to an adequate sound quality to be used (maybe in the future ... with an even more refined technology).
Honestly i'm aware that some moments of the present selection suffer from the instability of the original tapes and the inevitable loss of oxide in the digital transfer, but I thought it was still right to propose at least a minimal part of the work of those days.
As always, I composed and recorded alone (mainly at night) except for a single impromptu collaboration by Manuel Marin who - on a one-take session in the spring of 1987 - created extraordinary overdubs by savagely beating all the objects within reach of his arms.


Questa nuova raccolta di frammenti dal mio archivio audio personale è focalizzata esclusivamente su registrazioni effettuate al Noise Lab studio tra il maggio del 1986 ed il settembre del 1987, un periodo particolarmente importante per il mio lavoro di ricerca musicale dato che avevo finalmente a disposizione un rudimentale campionatore, un sequencer programmabile (per scrivere adeguatamente una partitura composta nei minimi dettagli ci volevano ore e ore) ed una serie di drum machines piuttosto differenti tra loro per timbriche e programmabilità.
La cosa per me più significativa di questa raccolta è notare quale determinata attitudine alla creatività permeasse quella stagione (nonostante avessi amaramente concluso la mia avventura professionale con i RUINS e il progetto HAKKAH stava procedendo tra alterne fortune).
Quanto selezionato in questa raccolta è solo una piccola parte della ben più ampia presenza in archivio.
Purtroppo alcune delle testimonianze più interessanti sono state impietosamente rovinate dal tempo e da una discutibile conservazione dei nastri (mea maxima culpa) e - almeno al momento -non è stato possibile portarle ad una adeguata qualità sonora per essere utilizzate (magari in futuro ... con una tecnologia ancora più raffinata).
Anche qualche momento della presente selezione soffre dell'instabilità dei nastri originali e la inevitabile perdita di ossido nel transfer digitale, ma ho pensato fosse comunque giusto proporre almeno una minima parte del lavoro di quei giorni.
Ho composto e registrato come sempre in totale solitudine (quasi sempre di notte) tranne un unica collaborazione estemporanea di Manuel Marin che in una sola sessione della primavera del 1987 ha realizzato delle straordinarie sovraincisioni percuotendo selvaggiamente tutti gli oggetti a portata delle sue braccia.
